Pre-Requisite Courses A course that a student must have completed before taking a specified course or course in sequence. |
Wheel Courses Usually an exploratory course made up of multiple subjects taught in equal amount of time over the period of an academic year. |
Horizontal Explode Indicates the host course explodes into subordinate courses that are offered sequentially across semesters or terms, such as a Wheel course. In eSIS, wheel courses are often set up as horizontal explodes where courses are scheduled in a chronological sequence across semesters and terms. The host course will be a different course length from the subordinate courses.
|
Explode After A scheduling feature where students are initially enrolled in a host course with links to subordinate courses. The explode function, when executed subsequent to timetable simulation, enrolls students into the same sections of the subordinate course. Students remain together in each of the subordinate courses.
|
Cross-Enrolled Course A course that a student takes at another school or institution. |
Subordinate Courses Component courses of a host course.
|
Simulation The process of taking student course requests and building a student’s course schedule. |
Vertical Explode The host course and the subordinate courses are usually the same course length. The host course spans multiple periods. The subordinate courses together will meet during the periods defined for the host course. Most subordinate courses will meet for a single period only, but could meet for multiple periods. When linked with explode after, the students with a vertical explode host course will move together from one subordinate course to another, one period to another. When linked with explode after, the subordinate courses will be added to the student’s course selections. The students with the subordinate courses will be scheduled randomly into the course sections. |
Explode Before A scheduling feature where students are initially enrolled in a host course with links to subordinate courses. The explode function, when executed subsequent to timetable simulation, adds the subordinate courses. Students are scheduled randomly into the subordinate courses’ sections. Students do not remain together in each of the subordinate courses. |
Host Course A primary course that has subordinate courses associated with it. The subordinate courses can expand either horizontally or vertically, either before or after simulation. |
Blocked Course A course that has been scheduled for a specified section, for example 10212 M, section 02. |
