Introduction

North Carolina schools are required to report attendance each school day. eSIS provides three ways to report attendance for North Carolina schools:

• Daily
• Period
• Specific Period

This lesson explores typical tasks that can be performed in eSIS for a Daily Attendance school. Daily attendance is based on a student’s presence at school for at least 50% of the instructional day.

Our lesson describes how to:

• Take attendance in a Daily Attendance school.
• Create a hot lunch order for a homeroom while taking daily attendance.
• Print reports that show daily absences.
• Officially close school due to an emergency.

Depending on individual school policies, daily attendance can be taken in a homeroom or a classroom. By contrast, period attendance schools enter attendance more than
once per day during each academic class or block of classes (periods). 

Although eSIS allows for separate recording of AM and PM attendance, daily
absences in North Carolina schools are only recorded once for the full day.

If necessary, absence records can be modified to change an absence type, absence reason, student notes, etc.

• Define daily attendance and know the difference between daily and period attendance.

  attendance data by home room.

  attendance information for many students at one time.
• Enter hot lunch item counts and view the Lunch Menu Item Count report.
• Prevent attendance from being recorded on a specific date due to an emergency school closing.
• View the Daily Attendance Call List (or the Attendance Call List - Period) and the Home Room (Attendance) reports.
